ActivCard has changed its name to ActivIdentity. Stockholders approved the name change at the annual meeting in February 2006

ActivClient SDK

The ActivClient SDK (Software Development Kit) enables ActivIdentity customers, integrators and partners to customize and expand the capabilities of ActivClient through a set of open and powerful Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

ActivClient SDK is designed for organizations that want to enable customized smart card or USB token usage scenarios, such as:

  • Enabling a third party or custom software application to support authentication, digital signature or encryption with digital certificates (PKI) stored on smart cards or USB tokens
  • Enabling a third party or custom software application to support authentication with one-time passwords generated on smart cards or USB tokens
  • Enabling a third party or custom software application to support authentication with static passwords stored on smart cards or USB tokens
  • Storing and accessing private information (e.g. confidential records, demographic data) on smart cards or USB tokens.

Benefits

  • ActivClient SDK provides a short integration cycle thanks to its high-level APIs that leverage the capability of ActivClient to support multiple devices, credentials and application.
  • ActivClient SDK provides high-level APIs: it allows application developers to integrate smart card functionality without any previous knowledge about smart card technology. By encapsulating low-level commands (such as reader management, smart card structure management, smart card insertion and removal), the ActivClient SDK lets developers focus on the security services needed for their applications.
  • ActivClient SDK provides access to multiple credentials secured on a smart card: static passwords, one-time passwords, and digital certificates (PKI).

Support for multiple industry standards

  • Microsoft CAPI, providing compatibility with Microsoft applications, and a wide range of PKI-enabled Windows applications from many vendors
  • PKCS#11, providing compatibility with a wide range of PKI-enabled applications from a variety of vendors; also enabling non-PKI services such as data storage
  • Smart Card Basic Services Interface (BSI) defined by the U.S. Government as part of the Government Smart Card - Interoperability Specifications (GSC-IS). For more information visit http://smartcard.nist.gov/
  • PIV (Personal Identity Verification) API defined by the National Institute for Standards and Technologies (NIST) in the FIPS 201 standard for US Federal Employees and Contractors. For more information visit the Computer Security Resource Center PIV Program website. ActivClient has been certified by NIST for compliance with FIPS 201: the certificate is available at http://csrc.nist.gov/npivp/PIVMiddlewareCertificate2.pdf.
